Hello! I am Chris Holm, and this year I will be teaching both a 5th & 6th grade combination class, and a 6th grade class. My subjects are English Language Arts, Literature, Math, & PE. I will be working with Maestra Anna to bring your child a fun, challenging, and rewarding school year. 5th grade students will be studying with Maestro Ramiro for math.
- To start the year, for my classes your child will need: 3 spiral notebooks, pencils, blue or black pens, eraser, ruler, & scissors.
- Later in the year you will need 1/4 inch graph paper, math compass, and math protractor. 5th graders should check with Maestro Ramiro for his requirements. I recommend that students bring markers and colored pencils if possible.
- To help your child be organized, we have ordered planners again this year. They will arrive in a few days.
- To help your child find the way he or she learns best, we are taking a “multiple intelligences” survey based on the research of Dr. Howard Gardner of Harvard University. I hope to use this information this year to make school work more fun and meaningful to your student.
- My class has a fun classroom economy simulation, so be sure to read the description papers I’m sending home. Students will need to turn in their “job applications” and letter of recommendation (if required for their job) by Wednesday to get the best jobs.
- Please turn in the form packet from the office this week. There will be a reward for students who turn everything in by Thursday. Especially look at the free & reduced lunch form, and return it, even if your child never plans to eat at the cafeteria. Adelante receives money for filling this out.
- Back to school night for us is next Thursday, Sept. 2 at 6:00. See Directora Linda’s newsletter for details. Be sure to come as we will explain about our classes, and also discuss the potential year-end trip to Yosemite! Parents get classroom cash for coming!
- If you have internet access, you can go to my website and view my newsletters and homework assignments. For the computer savvy, I now have an RSS feed, so you can always be instantly alerted to homework posts and communications!
Thank you thank you thank you for having so much information readily available for us parents! I am thrilled Dylan is in your class this year and look forward to a fun and productive year for him. Welcome back to school!
