- Welcome back to school! I hope you all had a restful vacation break, and are ready to start the second half of the year refreshed and ready!
- Maestra Anna and I have been working hard going over your benchmark 2 test results to determine what areas to concentrate on in the next several weeks. It will be important to do all of the assignments that we give you so that you can improve and be successful with the California standards.
- If anyone would like a copy of their benchmark results, just email me and I’ll print them out for you.
- Four people subscribe to my blog data feed. If you subscribe, you will be able to get instant updates on homework and announcements such as this newsletter instantly. Just go here on my web page and click on the red RSS-Posts link above the search box in the right column on my web page.
- Do you want more communication? Join the 8 other people on the free yahoo email list. Go to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AdelanteClass2011 and click on the blue Join this Group! button. You will need a free Yahoo account to join.
- Watch for information coming soon about a Yosemite trip raffle fund-raising activity. This is your chance to sell raffle tickets and have the money go to pay directly toward your trip account. This is the only activity this year where the student will get to use the money for their own trip. Last year students raised over $4,400 in all for their trips.
- If you want to go on the Yosemite trip but have not yet told me, let me know now. We can still get you a place before we have to give our final student total to the Yosemite Institute.
- Finally, the California Truancy law changed on Jan. 1. A student who has 3 unexcused absences in 1 school year is considered truant. (Excused absences are generally only for medical or legally ordered reasons.) If a student misses 10% of the school days (about 1.7 days per month) with unexcused absences, the parents or guardians could face very harsh penalties. The state of California (and we) want all of our students in school!
