Last Minute Yosemite Trip Information

Sunday Update: The weather is predicted to be colder than normal for this time of the year, with nighttime lows down to 28 (below freezing), and a 40% chance of rain on Wed, with snow on the valley rim. Check out this NOAA Link for the most recent info. Here’s a webcam picture from this afternoon. Brrrrr.

Our trip is upon us! Here is some last minute information for you.

  1. Be at Adelante at 7:50 AM on Monday morning, May 30 (Memorial Day). We will pack up the bus, and leave about 8:15. Be on time, because the bus will not wait if anyone is late!
  2. Be sure you have everything on the equipment list, including sleeping bag, pillow, day pack, clothing, etc. People often forget toothbrushes, hats, two 1-quart water bottles, and pajamas. Check the list. If you need a copy of the equipment list, go to the Yosemite tab on my web page: chris618.wordpress.com
  3. Bring money for souvenirs, and a phone card if you wish your child to phone home on Wednesday or Thursday.
  4. You may take your belongings in any kind of bag you wish. I do NOT recommend wheeled suitcases because the wheels will break on the rocks. We may need to carry our bags up to ¼ mile.
  5. For Monday and Tuesday while we are at Crane Flat, there will be no showers available. The ground is saturated with water, there is standing snow in places, and the septic system is full of water. Sigh. Showers will be available in Curry Village for our last 2 days of the trip.
  6. I will be leaving early on Thursday in order to attend my daughter’s high school graduation at Woodside High School at 10AM on Friday. Maestro Ramon will be arriving on Thursday to take my place and maintain our 6 chaperones.
  7. On Friday when we return, Maestra Anna will be calling Directora Linda with our expected arrival time. We should be at Adelante between 6-7PM. Please be early so that your tired child (and teacher!) doesn’t have to wait for you in the parking lot.

Call Directora Linda for our exact arrival time on Friday:

* The Yosemite trip is less than 3 weeks away (May 30 – June 3)! Please visit Margarita in the office if you still owe money. Also, please check the equipment list and be sure you have everything you need. The weather has been unstable, so be sure to have rain equipment as described in the paper you received in the packet.

*    For students going on the Yosemite trip, you need to purchase your hiking boots now. Boots are required for this trip. You may purchase them at any outdoors store. I have 3 pair available for people to borrow, so if anyone wants to try them on, bring your wool hiking socks, and give them a try!
*    I am attempting to get Jim from Redwood Trading Post to come on Thursday and show us the kind of clothing students will need for the trip. He usually offers a 10% discount if you mention Adelante when you purchase.
*    The office tells me that the cost of the Yosemite trip has gone up by $36. for each student. This is $15 to help offset the cost of raffle prizes, and $21 for a bus surcharge. Please add that to the amount you owe.
*    We leave for Yosemite in 7 1/2 weeks. The office tells me the final payment will be due April 25, right after the Spring Break, but early payments are appreciated. Please see Margarita in the office if you need to know the amount.
