  1. Why is the Salton Sea worth saving?
  2. Make a T-Chart of the positives and negatives of the Salton Sea (compare and contrast)
  3. What does the author accomplish by showing the positives and negatives of the Salton Sea?
  4. What are the similarities between the environmental problems of the wild turkeys and the Salton Sea?
  5. Why would it be more difficult to save the wildlife at the Salton Sea than the wild turkeys?
  6. Who wrote the article, who did he work for, and where did the article first appear?

Wednesday Evening

  • Math: Take-home test
  • Math: finish pie chart of ice cream flavors (hmm, sounds like dessert to me)
  • English: read 1/2 hour your non-fiction book

Tuesday Evening

Math pg 441: 5-35 odds

Answer these questions from the story Turkeys (pg 580) in the Lit book:

  1. What does an ornithologist study?
  2. What does the word “demise” mean?
  3. How can  you tell the difference between a wild turkey and a domestic (barnyard) turkey
  4. What threatens the wild turkeys?
  5. What event brought the author and the turkeys together?
  6. What disease does the author have, and why is it important to the story?

Homework for March 22-26

Holiday Break

Have a great vacation break everyone!

Here’s all you have to do for my class:

  • Read 1/2 hour every day: non-fiction for April
  • Fill out your reading logs and return the March log when we come back
  • Be ready to do your oral report when we return (on the March award-winning book)
  • Catch up on any late work you didn’t turn in!

Thursday Evening

  • Math pg. 406ff: 7-41 odds
  • Math take-home test is due tomorrow! We are grading it in class.
  • English: Reading logs will be due when you return. Pick up a new one tomorrow for April.
  • English: Have a non-fiction book to read in April.
  • English: Oral report on your March book when you return from vacation.

Wednesday Evening

  • Math Take-Home test through 45. It is due on Friday when we grade it!

Thursday Evening

  • Math Core: pg. 377: 7-27 odd
  • Math Challenge: pg. 377: 17-35

English: Read the persuasive essay on page 341.

  • Find each persuasive argument in the essay.
  1. Write down what the argument is.
  2. Write down what kind of argument it is (logic, emotional (which emotion), endorsement)
  3. Tell if you think the argument was effective.
  4. Tell why or why note the argument persuaded you.
  • Repeat for each argument you find.

Tuesday Evening

  • Math page 368: all problems
  • Math quiz on Wednesday (tomorrow)
  • Read 1/2 hour

Monday Evening

  • Math pg. 372 ff: Percent of change. Do core or challenge as assigned in class.
  • English: Worksheet on Main Point due tomorrow.
