Winter Break 2009

Have a restful break and enjoy celebrating the holidays: Hanukkah, Christmas, New Years!

I have uploaded Reading Log & Vocabulary Builder forms. Check out the new Downloads page link at the top of this page!

Remember, I will pay you class money for recording temperature data at 9AM and 1PM over the break!

I look forward to seeing you when we return January 4!!

Your only homework from me is to:

  • Read 1/2 hour every day and record it in your reading log. It is due the day we return.
  • Complete the 12 words on your vocabulary builder sheet.
  • Bring in your next Yosemite payment when we return.

Here is the most recent classroom newsletter in case you missed it:

December 14, 2009

  • Congratulations to everyone involved in the play Fairy Tale Courtroom that played over the weekend! It was a wonderful success, and I enjoyed seeing so many of our sixth graders involved in cast and crew!
  • This is our last week before winter break. We are busy with several tests and our major English report due this week.
  • We have been working for four weeks on our largest book report for the year. This report is worth 50 points (about 3 tests) toward the trimester English grade. We did it in three sections called ‘milestones,’ which have been turned in to me and corrected. The final version of the report is due on Thursday. It is to be turned in written in blue or black ink, or computer printout.
  • Today we had a quiz on poetry that we studied last week.
  • There will be a math test on chapter 5 this week, covering addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of fractions, plus multiplicative inverses.
  • Over the holiday break, please be sure to have your child read at least 1/2 hour per day and record it in your reading log. We will be doing a book report (any book at your reading level) when we return in January.
  • We need to make our final payment to the Yosemite Institute by the end of February (90 days prior to departure). Thank you to everyone who has paid in full or made their two installment payments. The next payment will be due when we return after break.
  • School will resume on Monday, January 4, 2010. Have a safe and restful holiday vacation!
