6th Grade English
Sequence Essay

Date due: Monday, Sept. 21

You are to write an essay that describes twenty-four hours in your typical day. Start with waking up in the morning, and end with going to bed.

Do all of the following:

1) Make a two column format, with Time on the left column, and Events on the right.
2) Final copy must be in blue or black ink, or printed from a computer.
3) Provide details (but not “too much information”) about what you do during an average school day. For the sake of this assignment, your day starts in my class. Be sure to use one or two complete sentences for each entry!
4) Make a time interval entry every time something changes in your day. If nothing changes for awhile, you still need to make an entry at least every half hour.
5) The essay is done when you go to bed. Don’t record sleeping every half hour!

Example:

Time        Event
7:00AM    The alarm goes off and I wake up and get up right away. I make the bed, and then I get dressed and go downstairs in my robe.

7:15AM    I eat the cereal with my mom and sister that my dad put out, and drink a glass of water.

7:20AM    I feed and brush Chewy (our puppy). I then run upstairs to get to the bathroom before my sister does.

7:30AM    I brush and floss my teeth. Then, I clean my face with rose water.

7:35AM    I comb my hair and hide my brush from my sister so she won’t use it.

7:40AM    I get my school stuff ready and get any papers signed that I need to take to school. I then put away anything the dog has taken downstairs. (Or throw it away if it is chewed up.)

7:45AM    I finally get Chewy off my lap and put on my shoes. He likes to play with my hair, so I make him stop and bother my sister instead.

7:50AM    My mom, sister, and I get in the car and drive off to school.

7:53AM    We arrive at school and get dropped off. I talk with my friends on the playground.

8:05AM    The bell rings and school starts. My friends and I go to class, and I take my TIG book, notebook, and pen out of my backpack.

8:10AM    TIG starts. We read some of our book and write down good vocabulary words. Then we do a small comprehension exercise.
