Homework for April 29 – May 3

It’s review time before our STAR tests next week.

Friday evening

  • Math: review as needed. Return any packets on Monday that you forgot to turn in.
  • English: 2 packets passed out on Friday. Return any packets on Monday that you forgot to turn in this week.
  • Read 1/2 hour or more.
  • Be ready for STAR testing on Monday: Get 8-9 hours of sleep every night; eat breakfast; come to school on time. This is important!  :-)

Wednesday evening

  • Make corrections to math packet #2 and turn it in tomorrow.
  • Finish math packet #3 that we started in class.
  • English: Do your 4 English packets and have them ready for class.
  • You should have finished your April book. We will start oral reports the Monday after STAR tests (May 13),

Tuesday evening

  • Math packet #2 is due tomorrow.
  • Correct your mistakes in math packet 1.
  • 4 English packets are due: Honeybees, Origami, Puppets, A Giant at Sea. Be sure you read the questions first and circle the key words.

Monday Evening

  • If you are doing an extra credit poem/song, I’ve extended the due date to tomorrow. The Instructions are in the previous posting if you didn’t copy them down.
  • Finish the math packet we did in class.
  • Finish the English packet(s) that were given to you.

Thursday evening

  • Math pg. 503: all questions on the practice test
  • Math: 4 question end of chapter test tomorrow
  • English: Extra Credit: song lyrics as a poem
  1. English extra credit: copy down the lyrics of a poem that has been set to music. Most songs are poems set to music.
  2. In one paragraph, give an analysis or summary of what the poem is saying.
  3. List the literary devices the poet used.
  • Read for 1/2 hour and record in your reading log.

Wednesday evening

  • Math: pg 495 ff: 1-11 odd; 12-16 even; 18-23 all; 30, 31, 35, 39
  • English: Read your April book and turn in reading log if you didn’t do it today.
  • Math test on Friday.

Homework for April 8-12

Friday evening

  • Math pg. 472 ff: 1-8 all; 12-18 even; 20-30 all
  • English: Final copy of non-fiction book report is due on Tuesday. In ink. If you forgot to get a form, download one from the Download page.
  • Read your April book and record it in your reading log. Log is due on Monday. You will do an oral report in front of the class on this book.
  • Field trip to the Asian Art Museum in SF on Wednesday.

Wednesday evening

  • Math pg. 462 ff: 2-30 even problems
  • English: Draft copy of your non-fiction book report is due tomorrow

Tuesday evening

  • No math due to correcting the take-home test today. We’ll make up for that tomorrow…
  • English: Work on the draft copy of your March non-fiction book report. It is due on Thursday. Use the form I passed out in class today, or download it from this web site.

Monday Evening

  • Math: Have your parents sign your chapter 8 test and you correct all of the problems on it. Bring it with you tomorrow.

  • Grizzlies: retake Wednesday at lunch
  • Math: the Take Home Test is due tomorrow! Bring it in with you.

Homework for March 18-22, Conference Week

Spring Break

  • Do the math Take-Home Test. It is due on Tuesday April 9 when we come back. It’s 70 questions long, so don’t wait until the last moment to start working on it. You may use the book, your notes, or your friends. You MUST SHOW YOUR WORK to get credit.
  • Make the final version of your Persuasion Essay Assignment. If you lost the rubric, it is located here. Be sure you have a full heading, have done it in blue or black ink or on the computer, and that you have stapled the draft to the back of the final version. It is due on Monday April 8 when we return.
  • Finish reading your March non-fiction book. If you want to get a head start on writing the book report, you can download the form on the Download page under Book Reports, Non Fiction.
  • Start reading your April book. It can be fiction or non-fiction, but you must not have read it before — it must be new for you. It must also be at or a little above your reading level. If you need Reading Logs, download some from the Download page.

Thursday evening

  • Math pg. 447 ff: 1-9 all
  • Math test tomorrow on all of chapter 8. Hey, take a look at it.
  • English: 5th paragraph, the conclusion is due tomorrow. We will have everyone review the persuasion essays in class tomorrow.

  • Math: pg. 440 ff: 1-9, 15-16, 20-23, 25
  • English: Paragraph 4 draft: third argument for your thesis

I am cancelling Monday’s math test because we are close to the break and I want to finish the chapter before vacation. We will have one chapter test on Friday instead (or Thursday if you’re leaving for vacation early).

Homework for March 4-8

Friday evening

  • No math today because we had a test.
  • A few people still need to get their March non-fiction books.
  • Read a half hour or more every day in English!

Thursday evening

  • Math test tomorrow.
  • Math: pg. 602 all OR DO 627-628 all
  • English: Got a non-fiction informational book? If not, you’re a week late.

Wednesday evening

I had to leave school early today so I’m putting the math questions up to the best of my remembrance.

  • Math: pg. 595, 4-8 all; pg 597 ff., (1-4?), (6-10?), 14, 15, 18, 19, 20
  • English: For the more than 60% of the class, you MUST get an informational non-fiction book from the library. You have had 2 weeks to do this, and I’m having you call home tomorrow if you don’t bring it in to class. 😐

Tuesday evening

  • No new math tonight.
  • Fewer than half of you have a non-fiction book from the library. The month is about 1/4 gone. You MUST get a non-fiction book on any topic as long as it is informational.

Monday evening

Friday evening

  • If you have missing tests or assignments, or want to do a test retake, you must have them turned in by Wed. to get them in for this report card period.
  • Math: pg. 586 ff: 9-22 all; 29-34; 37
  • English: Get your non-fiction book at the library if you don’t have it.
  • Read for 1/2 hour or more every day.
  • English: Write your final copy of your biography report and turn it in on Monday.

Thursday evening

  • No Math.
  • Draft biography report due tomorrow.
  • Get your full-length non-fiction book if you haven’t yet.

Wednesday evening

  • Math pgs. 580 ff: 1-7 all; 11-17 odd; 18-22 all
  • English: start writing your book report draft. It’s due on Friday.
  • Get a non-fiction book at the library. Full-length, one topic. Check with me if you have questions.

Tuesday evening

  • Math: pgs 574-575: 1-8, 16-23, 27, 29, 30.
  • Read your biography

Monday evening

  • No math due to the test today
  • Apostrophe test tomorrow
  • Biography last day is Thursday
  • Your next book will be a full-length non-fiction book on any topic you wish. You will need to check this out from the public library.

Friday evening

  • Math: all problems on these 3 pages: 389 practice test; 543, 544.
  • Math test on chapter 7 on Monday.
  • GATE students, read pages 540-543 on similar figures, and review proportions and polygon shapes in order to do the section 10-7 on similar figures.
  • English: Do the 2nd worksheet on possessive nouns and apostrophes. You will have a test on this on Tuesday.
  • Read your biography. There is only 1 week left in the month.
