September 10, 2007

This is the first week where we will be reversing the daily schedule. We will have reading groups first thing in the morning as usual. After that, Maestra Anna’s class will come to my room for the morning of math, English, and Science, while my class goes to her room for Spanish and social studies. After lunch we switch.

Classwork
* In English, we will be studying the story “The Sound of Summer Running” where we will be focusing on character traits, actions, and motives, and what it means to be a fluent reader. Grammer sheets not finished in class will be homework.
* My reading circle will begin the novel “The Westing Game” by Ellen Raskin. The school has only a few copies of this book. Only students in my circle will need to bring it to class on Thursday, either at school, by purchase, or at the public library.

Homework
* Students must read in English a minimum of 30 minutes every day, including weekends. This reading will be a part of the English Language Arts grade. Record your child’s reading on the weekly reading sheet, and return it on Monday.
* There is a book report due September 28. Bring the first milestone (protagonist through conflict) in on Friday. The theme this month is an award or classic book.
* There will only be math homework this week if the class work is not finished during class time.

Testing
* There will be a spelling test on Friday.
* There will be a math test on Friday.

Back-to-School night is Wednesday, September 12, 5:30PM
See you there!
