  • Write 8 sentences using the semicolon (;). Remember that you use the semicolon to replace a conjunction in a compound sentence. Both clauses on either side of the semicolon must be independent clauses (they must stand on their own). Example: We went to the park; I played in the sandbox.

  • Parent conferences will begin next week and run Monday – Friday. We will be sending home conference sheets today. This time we will only be requiring conferences with parents whose students are having difficulty. If your child is doing well but you wish to have a conference anyway, just sign up during the available hours on Thursday or Friday.
  • Conferéncias comienza la semana próxima. Enviarémos las formas caseras de las conferencias hoy. Esta año, solo los niños que necesítan ayuda en los clases necesitan conferencias. Si su niño no le necesita una conferencia pero todavia quieres una conferencia, apenas firmar la forma para una de las horas disponibles el jueves o viernes.
  • The Flea Market fund-raiser for the Yosemite trip is this Saturday from 8AM – 3PM. All students who are going on the trip are required to attend for part of the time to help work the food tables, snack table, or other booths.
  • We need people to donate food items for our breakfast and lunch tables. Please see the letter that went home on Monday that describes what we need.
  • La recaudador de fondos del mercado de pulgas para el viaje de Yosemite es este sábado de 8AM – 3PM. Requieren a todos los estudiantes que van en el viaje atender para la parte de la época de ayudar a trabajar las tablas del alimento, la tabla de bocado, u otras cabinas.

  • Thank you to the people who have returned their Yosemite forms, scholarship requests, and payment. If you have not turned your completed forms, do it today – I needed a confirmed count to give to the Yosemite Institute last Friday, and I do not yet have it.

  • There are only 40 teaching days left before the big state tests in May. How well your child does on these tests will determine if they get to take elective classes in 7th grade, or if they need remedial classes. Encourage your child to do all of their homework
  • Hay solamente 40 dias dejadas hasta el prueba del estado. Los resultados del prueba van a determinar si consiguen tomar clases electivas o clases electores en septimo grado. Anima a su nino hacer su preparación.

4-Day Weekend Homework

  • Math pages 331-332 odd problems. Police check on Tuesday.
  • Math test on Chapter 17 on Wednesday.
  • Finish the complete draft of your persuasion paper. At least 2 body paragraphs (see below) and a conclusion paragraph.
  • The conclusion paragraph has:
  1. A positive tone
  2. Brings in and ties together the PRO arguments (reasons) from your body paragraphs
  3. Extra credit: uses another example of creative, image producing language.
  4. An interesting concluding sentence.

Wednesday Night

  • Do math pages 328-329, all odd problems
  • Rewrite the 2 body paragraphs of your persuasion paper so that they have:
  1. the PRO argument (the reason in favor of your thesis),
  2. what you think would be an objection (the CON argument)
  3.  the counterargument to the CON. Do it as we showed on the board in class.

    Tuesday Night

    • TIG: Read through chapter 19
    • Writing: 2 body paragraphs on persuasion essay, using your best 2 reasons and 2 counterarguments. Polish / tighten up your intro paragraph. Help on pg. 341-343.
    • Reading logs are due NOW.

    Monday Night

    • Math pg. 323, problems 1-22 (all)
    • Write the final draft of your thesis paragraph (the introduction paragraph). It needs to have these 3 items in any order:
    1. The thesis (topic). This is what you are writing about.
    2. Show that there are two or more sides to your argument.
    3. Use language that gives an image, or picture in the mind of the reader.

    If you need help, see the example on page 343 of your gold literature book.

      Notices

      • It’s going to be a busy week. On Wednesday, we take a field trip to the Tech museum in San Jose via bus.
      • You have probably heard about the gas line problem. The leak will take at least all week to repair. We are heating classrooms with electric space heaters, which are working well. Because of construction in the back of room 1, students will be dismissed to the lower playground by the front of the school. All students must wait on the playground until their ride appears.
      • The library will be closed all week. Maestra Mariela’s class will be meeting in there due to the construction.
      • On Thursday, we will be walking to Kennedy school to hear their “sales pitch” about enrolling for next year and see their facilities.
      • You have the option to apply to any RCSD school for 7th grade next year: Kennedy, MIT, Clifford, Cloud, Hoover. Only Kennedy continues a Spanish program, however.
      • Watch for papers for you to sign to be coming home in the next week or so concerning our Yosemite trip in May.
      • A few parents have not yet turned in their installment payment of $119. for November. Please do so this week. The next installment of $119. is due at the end of February.
      • A big “thank you!” to Mrs. Efigenio and Mrs. Dunlap for running the pizza fund raiser at Family Fun Bingo night on Friday!

      Homework & Tests

      • We finished most of our oral book reports on Friday. The students all did a great job on their first solo report!
      • We will be having a math test on Tuesday covering multiplication and division of fractions, and an English test on the poetry we have been reading.
      • There will be a spelling and vocabulary test on Friday.
      • Reading logs are due next Monday.
